HyOrc Corporation has completed off-site modular fabrication and assembly of its first commercial waste-to-methanol module, which now moves into factory testing before transport to Portugal for deployment at the Port of Porto.

The skid-mounted unit is engineered to process roughly three tonnes per day of RDF — non-recyclable municipal and industrial waste — and designed to yield up to one tonne per day of chemical-grade green methanol, with conversion testing witnessed and independently verified by Bureau Veritas with zero non-conformities.

On funding, HyOrc's Portuguese joint venture recently secured approval for a €6.7 million non-dilutive EU STEP-Programme grant to support a Phase-2 expansion to 35 tonnes per day of RDF input (~8 tonnes per day of methanol output), and HyOrc and its Bulgarian partner have applied for a €50 million EU Innovation Fund grant.

Porto serves as the baseline commercial blueprint for a modular replication strategy, with twelve additional European ports — including Algeciras, Barcelona, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Gdansk, and Varna — named as potential future deployment sites.
